- Keg beer is an unpasteurized product that should be kept cold with ice or refrigerated at 38 degrees F.
- Foamy beer? It’s generally caused by:
⋅Temperatures higher than 38 degrees F
⋅An over-pressurized keg, which may be caused by “over-pumping” your hand pump (wait until a little beer flows from the keg before pumping again)
⋅Lifting the keg using the pump as a handle (this will damage the keg and the pump)
- Hand pumps force oxygen into the keg to pressurize it. Oxygen can make beer taste flat, so drink the beer in the keg within 24 hours of tapping it.
